Restrict project view based on Business Units

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

Dear All,

We have one Legal entity and 10 Business Units (BU) under that.

In "All Projects", users can view projects from all the BU. How can we restrict the project view based on the Business Units?

Regards,

Workkb

    Hi Andre,

    Thank you so much.

Let me first understand the concept.

I will ask new question if any doubts.

    Regards,

    Workkb

    Hi Workkb,

Try to read more about eXtensible Data Security (XDS) to learn about the options. There is some information available on the internet. With my blogs, I tried to share some more information and options.

If you have specific questions, you can always create new questions on this forum.

Of course, it would be possible to write coding on the form, but then it will not be applied on reports, data management, Excel add-in, etc.

XDS will enforce the policy on the AOS. Even if you want to restrict it for one user, I do think XDS is the better option above form customizations.

You can optionally filter data by applying  some criteria e.g.  'all records that begin with A'

You can also save such filters for reuse, add to your shortcuts etc.

In simple terms XDS enforces a filter, based on values in a field so that a specified user/role  only sees the restricted records that match that value.

The links given provide good example that your developer should be able to adapt.

To simplify this the data structure of e.g. the project id, or the project group, or some other relevant field .e.g Cust id, needs to be such that you can consistently apply a user specific filter logic otherwise its very tedious to create and to maintain a security logic to a random set of project ids by which to control access.

    Dear All,

    Thank you for the responses.

If i need to restrict access for only one user, what should i do?

I just would like to do it in "ProjProjectsListPage" in All projects for one user, is there any way to add some codes in this form itself?

In fact, am not able to get the XDS concept.

    Regards,

    Workkb

    Hi workkb,

Ludwig and Prasad shared some information about XDS. Ludwig even shared my recent blogs.

The example "Retail channel security" is based on organization hierarchy assignments. The details about this example will be described in a new blog soon. You can already have a look at the example: kaya-consulting.com/extensible-data-security-examples

It would be possible to change this example and restrict on business units in stead of retail channels.

    Hello Workkb,

If you want to restrict the access in the project module then you need to apply XDS. On this blog there are several examples posted how this can be realized. kaya-consulting.com/blog

On ther other hand side, if you are just interested in restricting the access to financial data for managers, you can do that for example in the management reporter with the unit security feature. See e.g. dynamicsax-fico.com/.../management-reporter-unit-security

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
