I know that Microsoft has on their roadmap the ability to export Real-time segments to Excel - but until we have this feature, is it technically possible to create a custom solution to do this?  If so - can you provide some tips/tricks/how-to information to get us started?

    Hi Stephani,

Amey Holden has created a great solution for segments in realtime marketing. Maybe this also helps for your request: Browse and Search Segment Membership in Customer Insights - Journeys — Amey Holden | Anything But Code | Dynamics 365 Marketing & Power Platform

While native export to Excel for Real-time segments is not yet available in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Marketing, it's technically feasible to build a custom solution to achieve this functionality. Here's a breakdown of how you can approach this:

    Conceptual Approach:

    1. Retrieve Segment Data:

      • Use the Dynamics 365 Marketing API to fetch the members (contacts) of the Real-time segment.
      • You'll need appropriate authentication and authorization to access the API.
    2. Format Data for Excel:

      • Organize the retrieved contact data into a structure suitable for Excel (e.g., rows representing contacts, columns for attributes like name, email, etc.).
      • Consider any data transformations or filtering required based on your specific needs.
    3. Generate Excel File:

      • Utilize a library or tool to create an Excel file (e.g., OpenXML SDK, EPPlus, ClosedXML).
      • Populate the Excel file with the formatted contact data.
    4. Provide Download or Export:

      • Make the generated Excel file available for download to the user.
      • You could trigger this process manually (e.g., a button in the Dynamics 365 Marketing interface) or automate it based on certain events or schedules.
