LogisticsLocation.ParentLocation

Hello,

Can anyone explain to me when a record in LogisticsLocation would have the ParentLocation field filled. The very small subset of existing records in our LogisticsLocation table have a ParentLocation, and all I've been able to glean from it is it points back to another record in the same table. What I'm not sure of is how ParentLocation gets populated. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

It is when a location entity is having additional details involving an address or contact details. Such as when you set up an address for a warehouse, for which you would like to add a contact phone number. That would involve LogisticsPostalAddress and LogisticsElectronicPostalAddress, for which entries there would be a parent and child location linked.

    Vilmos,

Is this a configuration which needs to be enabled within AX, or does depend on how data is loaded. The example I have is this: customerA has a delivery address and a telex type contact. What I see within LogisiticsLocation are two record, neither of which have a ParentLocation value. Each LogisticsLocation record ties back to LogisticsElectronicAddress and LogisticsPostalAddress. I would have expected a reference in either of the LogisticsLocation record based on your response.

    Thank you!

Your example says for the customer record I have Level 1 (address) and Level 1 (telex) details.

My example says for the warehouse record, I have Level 1 (address) and Level 2 (phone) details that belongs to Level 1.

I am unsure how else to explain this. It is out-of-the-box feature to set additional information belonging to an address or contact.

Your example should be for your customer you have a contact address (level 1), and for the contact you have a phone (level 2).

Vilmos, I understand your explanation now that I've looked at the address a bit closer. Thank you very much!
