Reservations on Sales Orders

A big problem we are having is when customers order well in advance, inventory gets allocated to but if another customer orders the same thing due much sooner we will ship what we have to them now.  We will remove reservation and steal from the order that is due further out.  In turn we have to remember to put reservation back on when we receive more in.  But what if the new batch has quality issues? - major problem, we cant accomodate these people that order well in advance. We also have to unreserve items line by line, would like to bulk unreserved if possible.

Any suggestions to this problem?  We run Master Planning using CTP.  Maybe changing our CTP parameters could help? We currently have our positive days set to 500.

Thanks,

RM

The big question is if you need to work with reservations or not. If you have too many changes on completed reservations, this seems to be working against you. Reservation means it is promised to a customer. You are now telling that you can't reserve due to orders coming in later that needs to have an earlier delivery date.

By disabling the reservations and the correct settings for Master planning, you should be able to fulfill all orders. Problem is only if you sell to an additional customer while you don't have time to produce or buy the items anymore. Also quality issues can't be foreseen. For that reason many companies do have a minimum on-hand.

Bulk update reservations is not possible.

Only wanted to supplement André's answer, by saying that it is possible to use the 'Release sales order picking' form for updating reserved quantities only. Just enter a quantity in the 'Reservation quantity' field.

This is probably easier than going to each Order -> Line -> 'Inventory' drop-down -> 'Reservation'.
