AX 2012 R2 - How to clone the instance to another server

I have upgraded our 2012 FP CU3 instance to R2 CU6.  How can I clone that to build a few DEV boxes?

I am trying to do it the way we refreshed instances in RTM release of 2012 and its not working.

First I make a backup of the trans DB and the model DB.  Then I restore them to new SQL databases.  Then I run the R2 setup and choose "existing databases".  When it tries to detect the additional models it doesn't come back with any models to choose and therefore doesn't let me continue...  What am I doing wrong?

If you already have a prepared business database and a prepared modelstore, and they are working, all you need is to restore them to a new set of databases (as you just did), and then install a new AOS pointing at the copied business database. It will automatically assume the modelstore database is there with the _mode suffix.

I recommend deleting the rows in SYSSERVERSESSIONS, SYSSERVERCONFIG and SYSSQLSETTINGS n the copied business database, just so you get a fresh set of unique IDS for this copy.

I will give that a shot!  That is probable my answer!

If I don't have a baseline database from the restored databases(previous instance) how can I create a new baseline database after I have completed the new instance?

Well, you don't need a baseline really. If you insist, you can have a look at two of my blog posts here:

    yetanotherdynamicsaxblog.blogspot.no/.../create-new-baseline-database-for-ax2012.html

Please mark answers that helps, in order for anyone coming after you to skip the dialog and head straight to the answer. Thanks. :-)

Thanks Tommy S.  I skipped the database install since I was restoring the same version I was installing.  Just went on to the AOS install and everything went just fine.

As far as the baseline we will just be skipping that from now on.  I have just gotten used to having it...  The developers can create it if they need it.
