Relating table with multiple look up to same table

Posted on by 123
Hi,

I currently have a custom form, which has 3 look up to the contact table.

Contact name, Manager name, Assistant name

There is a related subgrid on the contact form, which shows the data from the custom table.

On adding a new record, all 3 fields get populated with the contact name.
I am unable to remove to mapping.

I leave the contact name, and change the names of the other two fields. When I save the record it doesnt appear on the subgrid.

Only way it reappears is when I add the contact name back into the other two fields. 'Manage and assistant'

1. Is there a way to unmap?
2. Is there a way to select the field i want to relate the record to.

Thanks

Unfortunately, it seems that we can't achieve both, which are by-design.
If you create one lookup, one relationship will be created, and mappings between table id and lookup also will be created automatically.
When creating custom records using the sub-grid the data map will populate all the contact lookup fields with the data from the source.
This is how the relationship will behave, and unfortunately, you will not be able to delete the mapping.
We can't stop field mapping from happening if you create records from a sub-grid.
Perhaps we need to consider using js to clear the other two lookup values when a new record is created.

I hope you can mark my answer verified if it is helpful! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
    Regards,
    Leah

    Hi,

I think that you must follow some steps to unmap this :
    1. Remove these fields from all forms, all views, all charts
    2. Delete the one to many relationship
    3. Delete (Remove) the fields.

You can also click on show Dependecies to show all dependencies with these fields. Then you must remove one by one.

    Hope that's helpful
