Social Engagement Refresh Rate

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by 344 User Group Leader

We have noticed some significant delays (30 minutes or more) between the source sites native interfaces and the Social Engagement app refreshing. What is the expected refresh rate for the app? Are there difference between sources we should consider?

We are trying to stream conversations into the app so we don't appear delayed but this we can't see a way to increase the rate.

I have the same question (0)

You are correct that different sources will take different periods of time to acquire.

Twitter public messages, for example, is quite fast.

Private messages, on the other hand, are quite a bit slower.

And YouTube actually states in their API documentation that they are not a real-time system and that comments are available to 3rd parties (like MSE) in a reasonable time (but with no SLA).

Let me check with a PM and get a more specific answer for you.

    Hi Mark

We have indeed different refresh rates depending on the sources, which is mainly due to delays we experience from our data providers.

Would you be able to share which delays you are experiencing on which sources? That will allow me to check if you are have higher delays as usual and further investigate.

    Best regards

    Phil

We are seeing the issues with Facebook comments most noticeably. Based on your comments and @Hamlet's comment it sounds like my best bet is to review developer docs for the data sources to understand the time limitations an threshold of each API.

    Hi Mark

Facebook comments are a bit slower indeed, we are seeing sometimes delays up to 2 hours.

Be aware the the threshold and limitations of the API's will give you an idea on how fast the provider might deliver, but we will have a delay on top of that.

Please feel free to further comment here or ask questions, I'm happy to help as much as I can

    Best regards

    Phil
