Ability to Build BOMs from the bottom up

We have BOMs that have multiple sub assemblies.

- When we go to Build the top level BOM we are often stopped because one of the sub assembly BOMs have not been completed.  So we are faced with:

- come out to build the sub assembly BOM

- go back into the Top Level BOM and try building it again. 

- We may be faced yet again with another sub assembly that was not built and have to repeat the above steps.

Previous software we have worked with would build the BOM from the bottom up.  Is there a feature or process that would enable us to do this?

    Hi,

    I'm guessing the problem is because of missing inventory?

    In that situation you have several options.

    You could run one of the Inventory Reports to check that you sufficient inventory. As alternative, in Assembly Orders you can see the Availability of each Item in the FactBox on right.

    Or, in an Assembly Order you could execute "Explode BOM". Then the underlaying BOM would be inserted into the current Assembly Order. Instead of e.g. 3 Assembly Orders, you would have to manage one Assembly Order only. But in this situation, you cannot amend the Quantity of the underlaying BOMs (you can only assembly as much as for the current Assembly Order is needed).

    Thank you for your feedback.  It isn't so much as having missing inventory rather that in the multi level BOM the top level (Parent) is being built with the ASSUMPTION that all underlying BOMs have already been built.  This is not necessarily the case and therefore when the top level BOM is being built, there are instances where one of the underlying BOMs  have not been built so we have to come out, build the underlying BOM that was not showing as being available, then go back in and try again.  This could happen a number of times since there are many sub assy's in our BOMs.  It is possible that we are missing something (minimal training was provided and essentially going by what we know).
