Unable to edit SSRS Reports in VS 2010 sp1

ReportReport
Posted on by

Our Service Provider have installed Visual Studio 2010 SP1 on Development box.  I have installed the Dynamics AX 2012 R2 CU6 Client along with AX Component Visual Studio Tools.  But when I open VS and try to Preview or Edit the report I am getting the attached error:  I am able to open run reports from AX.

Thanks Dick for responding.  The link you shared talks about the same issue I believe.

But I confirmed with the Service Provider as he can only install SQL Server 2012, SQL Server Data Tools have already been installed on the Client machine.

    Any other inputs?

As per I can understand SSRS report development tool is not installed.

As per the message it says --- Business Intelligence Development Studio Feature of Microsoft SQL server is not installed.

This component is part of SQL server component and is used for SSRS report development

Its an IDE for SSRS report development similar to Visual Studio

    Please verify.

@Dick : Nothing was written in Event Log, I checked.

@Nitesh: In SQL Server 2012 there is no Business Intelligence Development Studio Feature, instead we have SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) and I confirm that this component is already installed by our service provider.

    Any other inputs please!!

    Hi Munna,

You are right.. in SQL server 2012 it renamed as SQL server DAT tools...

I suspect you have multi server installation and SSDT is installed in SQL server, where as you are trying to modify the SSRS report on server where you don't have SSDT,

can you please verify and update more details about your case.
