In General Journal > Lines > Line Description, How Can I Enable Editing The Description of a Posted Journal?

Posted on by 878

Hello people :)

I know this may sound somehow bizarre lol but I was asked to enable editing the description field in the lines of a posted journal.
I want to remove the lock on the description field on the lines, and update the related tables.

Even if it's not recommended, I want to learn how to customize things like this so please if you can lead me, give me guides and tips it would be appreciated.

For a starter, which method should I edit to remove the lock on the description field of posted journal?

and where should I write the update line for the related tables?

Thanks in advance :)

    Hi Momochi,

That is the reason, why I had created a similar customization in the past to only have the option on posted transactions, so only the GeneralJournalAccountEntry table. (In the past the was the LedgerTrans table).

I found a table where I should update the description on called: "GeneralJournalAccountEntry", but it looks tough to find a  one-to-one relation between LedgerJournalTrans and GeneralJournalAccountEntry.....

Thanks Mr. Andre for the help.

I did create a dialog and now I can get the values on the dialog using arguments.

So now I have the record information and I can write an SQL update line after the user enters the data on a text field and clicks on the OK button.

But do you know how many tables I should update the description on?

    I believe it's not only LedgerJournalTrans.Txt .

How can I know how many tables I should update?

and BTW i'm sorry for being slow haha.

    Thanks.

    Hi Momochi,

You can have a look at other places in the system where dialogs are presented. Then you can learn from it and implement it into your own customization.

    Hello Mr. Andre,

What I want to change is the lines description (LedgerJournalTrans.Txt)

Your advice for creating a dialog where I present the current description and allow the user to enter the new description sounds great!

So for example i'm going to create a button which will open a mini window (a dialog) which has 2 text fields the first one shows the current decription and the second one an empty and editable text field that will be filled with the new description.

Ok, the journal can contain multiple lines, each with its own description, and the user wants to edit a certain line, how can I get the data of the highlighted row?

Please if you have a link to guides, please share, since i'm new to customization and I want to learn.

    Thanks :)

    Hello Momochi,

In my home country the text is part of the voucher and making a subsequent change to it would be considered a manipulation of an accounting entry.

Before making this adjustment try to get something written that this modification is ok, so that you won't get into trouble ;-)

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Momochi,

Do you want to change the description text of posted accounting entries? In that case, changing the description of the journal only has no use. If you make the solution with logging of the changed descriptions, it might be accepted by the auditors. But check with them.

The best solution would be creating a button where you will get a dialog specifying the current description and a second for specifying the new text. Then using x++ coding, you can change journal lines and/or accounting entries.
