Check the versions. This error is often seen when the retail versions are mismatched with the version of the POS that is installed. However, those versions aren't necessarily the same CU number. For example, if you are using AX 2012 R3 CU10, then you should be using the Retail SDK CU9. The releases are not in parallel. Try building each SDK separately. The one that doesn't crash and burn when compiled is the SDK for your version.
