Create Aggregate Dimension for DefaultDimension

Hi all,

I'm using F&O for my Power BI poject.

May I know some references that teach how to create Aggregate Dimension that using Default Dimension table ?

The goal is I have a Resources table (WrkcCtrTable) which I fill in the Cost center (Financial Dimension) information. I need to bring this info to Power BI, so I can slice and dice the cost center.

Thanks,

I have the same question (0)

RE: Create Aggregate Dimension for DefaultDimension F&O

    Hi Tony

Please have a look at the LedgerActivityMeasure measure, which makes use of the DimensionCombination dimension.

    Hope this helps.

btw. You should probably have posted this on the F&O forum :)

    Good Morning Tony,

Do you only plan to filter and rearrange your resources table or do you want to do more in PowerBI?

For simple filters and rearranging data you don't need PowerBI but can directly do that in AX/D365FO.

    Note:

What Dynamics version are you working with?

If it is AX, stay on this forum.

If you use D365FO then use the following forum: community.dynamics.com/.../765 the next time you have a question.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

RE: Create Aggregate Dimension for DefaultDimension F&O

    Hi, Thanks for the information.

Actually I've  already moved this to F&O forum.

Anyway, about the question, yes we want to do more on Power BI instead. So it's not only for filtering, but we want to slice and dice F&O information lets say Production per Cost center per year, comparison to last year, and many more.

Problem is I cannot find good article discussed on how to create Aggregate Dimension that based on Default Dimension.

    Thanks,

RE: Create Aggregate Dimension for DefaultDimension

It should work like any other aggregate dimension relationship.  For the aggregate dimension you need a view that shows information about financial dimensions.  You then create an aggregate dimension on that view and link it to your measure group by creating a relationship between the defaultdimenion column in the measure group and a matching value I the dimension view.

For the dimension try querying DefaultDimensionView to make sure it include info on the dimension you are interested in. If it does, then add a aggregate dimension using DefaultDimensionView as the value for the Table property and use DefaultDimension as the key attribute.  Add attributes for any other columns that look useful for your case.    measure group.

In the measure group add a new dimension and pick the dimension for Defaultdmensionview.  For the relationship, pick the attribute for DefaultDimesion for the dimension attribute and match it up to the DefaultDimension column in the measure group.

If you don't have DefaultDimensionView or it does not have what you need, then define a new view.  You'll need  include DimensionAttributeValueSetItem,  DimensionAttributeValueSet and DimensionAttributeValue tables.   DefaultDimension value match to recId values from DimensionAttributeValueSet.  See the table relationships for DimensionattributeValueSetItem for how to join them together.

    Hope this helps.
