Mailbox test generates tons of tasks for a few users

Strange one.

We have some users who, when their mailbox is tested and enabled, crm will generate several hundred activities.  Mostly tasks.

We have sync appointment turned on, we're using server side sync and dynamics 365.

The tasks are generated at a rate of about 10 per minute and they sometimes repeat.  The real dates are from 2008 for example but spawn with today's date. 2021 as I write.

Any idea where these are coming from and why there is sometimes a loop.

Users can't see them in outlook.  Might they be in exchange? Is dynamics finding them, sending them to exchange and then getting them back?

Send that this party ignored the process from date set in the server.

I have the same question (0)

Is it generating tasks in their Outlook or in Dynamics? It's usually caused by the sync. It's because the server will retrospectively pull tasks in either directions.

They are generated in CRM. At least one user found them in Outlook so it does go the other way too.

The activities seem to be copies of closed activities.  I have to delete them from crm so next time we test and enabled, they will be created again.

Might be missing an obvious solution. Cancelling messes up the timeline. I could maybe clear the Regarding field.

Can't quite see the pattern not why it doesn't effect everyone.

Hey bud. You can control how things sync by either controlling the sync direction of fields. Or by adding a user or system filter to determine what gets synced from Dynamics to Outlook and vice versa.

    Go to Advanced Settings>Settings>Administration>System Settings>Synchronization

From there select the system filter link and a new popout will appear.

User filters can be applied on a per user basis whilst system filters apply globally (system filters can be applied programmatically whilst user filters you can use the advanced find filter).

That is interesting.  I have a feeling the dodgy activities are old records that formed part of our migration to Online so there might be something about them that is causing the issue.

I guess I could use this to set a cut off date in the past that may remove the problem.

Feels like I should programatically add a system wide filter containing a Created On Or After Date.
