Warehouse Mobile Device Portal (WMDP) timeout

Hi All ,

Our client recently upgraded to AX 2012 R3 and using warehouse management module with Mobile device functionality . 

Issue :

 Most of the times when business users try to login to the mobile devices and during transactions , users will be kicked out automatically . The error on Warehouse Mobile Device Portal is  “Sorry, an error occurred while processing your request. Please retry your request or contact your system administrator”

Issue Description :

The error frequency is not constant. As part of trouble shoot ,the main servers are rebooted the devices will work for a while with no issues.... After a number of hours we start to see timeouts in the browser on screens. This progressively gets worse as time progresses.

 

Analysis results :

The configuration of the mobile device follows the Microsoft guide lines and no loses found regarding the configuration.

Already followed the below posts as part of trouble shoot , but the suggested solutions are already in place.

    Hi Sri,

    I led implementation of this module to one of the biggest retailers in my country. We have gone through many issues, too. Currently we are able to distribute over 30.000 items everyday with 20 people in operation with no problems and we went live 4 months ago. We have many customizations in the module but we mostly developed work around solutions and used the standard functionality behind. I shared common issues I dealt with in this term, below. I hope it will help. Please let me know about the results in this topic. 

    IIS servers

    What helped us the most in terms of performance was dedicating a server only for IIS of WMDP. This changed things dramatically. Our client have two main warehouses, and they both have their own dedicated server for mobile devices.

    Timeout limit

    When it comes to timeout, first thing we did was increasing the limit. This is not your case obviously but for others, rising the timeout limit should be done both in IIS configuration and web.config file.

     

    Timeout / configuration error 

    Our client's environment have multiple legal entities and they all use advanced warehouse management operations. When we wanted to switch companies, that is, try to open the webpage for another legal entity, application would throw an error that it does when your CSS file isn't working. The solution was closing and reopening the browser.

    Head blocker operations (SQL) 

    When there was a timeout, we checked SQL activity monitor and inspect every single operation. Then we fixed some headblocker operations with development. Some of them was our development, some of them was standard functionalities but, when it takes too long, it is good to know and inspect if there is a headblocker operation.

    The issue is that when user to login or during transactions via mobile device , system throws the error

    Warehouse Mobile Device Portal: “Sorry, an error occurred while processing your request. Please retry your request or contact your system administrator”, you should first check the application log of the IIS server’s event viewer.

    To analyze the case ,we  required to find a trace for particular user session who is using Ware house mobile device and getting the above error.

    We have done the trace parser and done data collection for particular time,but trace parcer data shows 25 user sessions , which does not have enough information , it just shows the service account only,not the mobile device user information .

    I want to know how WMDP users are connected with AX when passing data from mobile device to AX?

    What is the possibility to identify the user relation of mobile device user to AX user account ?

    I required to find exact trace of particular mobile device user user from all the trace sessions?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Sri,

    have you checked "Worker processes" form while users operating on mobile device?
    This form keeps who are logged in and have been waiting longer than usual.

    Then you can inspect what they are doing at the moment in Work user sessions form on XML tab. (User session logging should be enabled for this, in Warehouse management parameters. But please also remember to set clean up batch job and turn this parameter off when you are done. It will effect mobile devices' performance.)

    Thanks for the updates.

    As you mentioned we have already checked details from user session earlier only.

    how is user name mentioned in user session form is linked with AX?

    I required to check the trace for the  mobile user which is specified in user session form from the respective 25 user sessions, how can we figure out

    as for every trace it is mentioned as _wmd( for example ax user it will be specified as _axuserid)
