Fixed Asset ID allows special characters via DMF and how to rename existing Asset IDs?

Hi,
 
We imported Fixed Assets into D365 Finance & Operations using the Data Management Framework (DMF). During import, the system accepted Asset IDs such as M&E001, M@E002, etc., and the records were created successfully.
 
However, business does not want special characters like @ or & in the Asset ID. We want to update existing Asset IDs to a clean sequence like MCH001, MCH002, and so on.
 
My questions are:
1. Why does D365 F&O allow special characters in the AssetId field during DMF import?
2. Is there a supported way to rename or update existing Asset IDs in bulk after assets are already created?
 
Any best-practice or supported approach would be helpful.

    System is treating your input as String.
    If you do not want that you have two options
    a)) either cleanup your data(asset id) before import
    b)use/accept auto sequence of system (which means D365 F&O system will assign the number to the asset on it's own)

    2. You can update by rename. But first try in test environment to be sure all is good.
