Talent Integration Capabilities

Hi,

I know this has been touched on in some other questions, but I'd like to seek some updated clarification if possible as I know things are moving pretty fast in this space.

In Talent, what integration capabilities are currently available for either:

  1. Automatic data retrieval from Talent
    • Can we use bring your own database?
    • Does the entity export feature work in Talent?
    • Are there any other ways currently to retrieve data from Talent? (e.g. OData sources, an API)
  2. Automatic data updates into Talent
    • I suspect this is currently impossible, is this correct?
    • Will CDS integration, once complete, allow automatic updates of entities in Talent or will it be read-only?

Appreciate any insight you can offer :-)

Thanks,

Matt

    RE: Talent Integration Capabilities

    Hi Jill,

We are trying to export data out of Talent.

    1. CDS does not have all the entities

    2. PowereBI ODatafeed also does not seem to connect

    3. Excel pulls through the data field but not linked.

Where kind I find DMF for talent? If that's the way to export all the data out of Talent.

    Kind regards

    Shri

Pre Feb/March 18 releases had a bug in Talent DMF that prevented any data from entities that had 'Additional tracking fields' added to the data source from exporting. I used Excel Dynamics Addin to connect to the Talent db and export/import. It used to create a single column called 'AddFields' for all custom fields and had to use ; as value separator.

I believe this has been resolved in later releases. I've will test soon as i now have access to D365 Talent again.

Just as an update on this, I've managed through a combination of undocumented features found in a Finance and Operations blog, and help from Microsoft support, to successfully use the Data Management Framework to extract custom field data from Talent.

Thanks Jill - so far we don't seem to able to pull custom/extension fields via the Data Management Framework.

    Are we overlooking something?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. You can use the data management framework to export entities and put them into a database for bring your own data today. The full Data management framework (DMF) is available in Talent. You will not have the ability to create new entities in Talent, but have full use of the entities that are available. CDS has a subset of the entities available in Talent, but in upcoming releases of the CDS additional entities will be added and you'd use that for your data retrieval.

    2. There is some availability today with the CDS. The entities in the CDS are a subset of what's available in Talent, but you could use Flow or Logic Apps to update the CDS which would update Talent.
