Hi Guys,
I have installed Management Reporter successfully on our AX 2012 R3 server but when we are trying to open it through client we are facing the following error :
"There is no program associated to perform the requested action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create a association in the default program control panel."

I think you can overcome the 'program' problem, correcting some registry entries - think something isn't very well done here :-(
Please look at registry hive ClasseRoot HKCR\mrd\shell\open\command
there is maybe a standard REG_SZ entry without the sometime important delimiter "
(Which is used by maybe all other extensions )
Think ManagementReporter Setup is something behind here :-(
If you have something like
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics ERP\Management Reporter\2.1\Client\ReportDesigner.exe %1
change this to
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics ERP\Management Reporter\2.1\Client\ReportDesigner.exe" "%1"
and it should work in all cases
P.S.: There is a similar case for the mr extension itself (ReportViewer)

Thank you Mels de Zeeuw! Your solution solved my issue. After I removed the generic file named "Program" in the drive root folder, the menu item link within the Dynamics AX client properly launched the Management Reporter Designer client.
I had the same problem on several systems.
I found the cause of this problem now.
During installation of AX components something wnet wrong with VCREDIST installation. It created a log file called 'program' on my D: drive in the root folder. I installed Management Reporter Client in D:\Program Files\....... it seems that the 'program' file in the root was causing the problem.
After removing the 'program' file, everything works as expected.
So check the root of your drives for a file called 'program' with some vcredist error in it.

That's what I was referring to when I mentioned the 'link' in the AX Client:
I didn't change ports or modify any standard settings during the setup phase.
This can be replicated on other environments I have here.
- Uninstall MR
- Re-install MR (creating new databases through the installer)
- Install runs cleanly
- Open AX client, clicking Management Reporter link in GL gives the error dialogue above.
- (Edit For clarity) -- MR Config Console and MR Designer launch from start menu without issue and configuration looks all-good

Have you checked the MR link in the General Ledger parameters? Probably after reinstall you have used another machine or port?
I've run into the same issue after uninstalling MR Designer and re-installing.
Now the association is broken for the "Management Reporter" link in the AX Client.
If launch it from the Start Menu it works without issue.
As well, the installation logs don't indicate an error or anything abnormal, and other than this forum thread, I'm not seeing anyone else with this issue.
We are having this exact same issue on 2 of our application (Terminal) servers. The MR client is installed (CU10) and it can be launched outside of AX. However, when trying to launch from within AX we are receiving the same error message.
It appears that the URL it is trying to launch is: "mrd://?ServerConnection=http://rpt01:4712/&Company=CPCA".
If I create a shortcut to this URL on one of our application servers that works, it launches correctly. If I try on one of the non-working servers I receive an error message "This app can't run on your PC".
Does anyone know how Windows (and AX) knows how to handle an mrd:// URL for Management Reporter?
