Hello,

I am searching to see if it possible to have financial dimensions setup on procurement categories?

I want my dimensions to come through from any category as they do from an item.

thanks

Hello Veronika, To my knowledge it is not possible to setup financial dimensions for procurement categories. A possible workaround is setting up ledger accounts for each procurement category that you have and link those ledger accounts to a financial dimension by defining it as a fixed financial dimension value for the respective ledger account. Hope it helps, Ludwig

    Hi Veronika,

There is indeed no default dimension setup on these categories. Next to a workaround, you can consider a customization.

Thanks Ludwig, this could be a good workaround if we don't have too many categories. To not weigh down on the chart of accounts.

(By the way I follow your blog. Some good stuff!)

Hello Ludwig, how do you link an existing ledger account to a procurement category?  I did not see any place to do that in either the Procurement Category or in the General Ledger Account Windows.

I am a relatively new user to AX2012 and learning configuration as I go, but I was not part of the initial setup.  My question stems from the fact that when a purchase requisition is created, the financial dimensions appear by default.  I am not sure where they come from since the vendor does not have any set up by default, and the product is not managed in inventory (only text in PReq), so I suppose it is the product category that determines them.  The Financial dimensions need to be modified, so I am looking for the spot where I can modify the Department value in these default dimensions.

    Thanks,

    Hello Simona,

You can link the procurement categories to ledger accounts via the inventory posting form.

Where your financial dimensions that automatically Default come from is difficult to say without knowing more.

It can be from the vendor, item, the requester, the operating unit that is specified or something else that might have been modified for your company. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

I would say they come from the Employee master who registered the purchase req. That is where i would put the financial dimension department.

Thanks Ludwig!  I can now link the new categories to the proper GLs and edit the existing incorrect ones.

Thanks Veronika!  I checked and indeed, all employees who have the issue are assigned the incorrect department in their own financial dimensions.

    Hello Simona,

The mapping to the GL accounts is done in inventory Management - Setup - posting - posting.

The Setup of the procurement categories is done in the procurement and sourcing module.

    All the best,

    Ludwig
