Help with licensing understanding (Customers with 10 users of Customer Engagement Plan)

Posted on by 385

 Hi,

I would be very happy if someone could explain to me in human language how the licensing works. So I am a customer with 12 active users of Customer Engagement Plan.

According to this page  https://dynamics.microsoft.com/en-us/marketing/overview/  I am entitled to Dynamics 365 for Marketing with customer engagement plan with the following limitations -  2,000 contacts with no extra charge.

However, "small letters" reveal that in order to be eligible for this benefit I must first purchase 8000 contacts for $600 per month prior to purchasing any other additional contacts. So what does that mean? "additional contacts" is this beyond the 2000 that I (supposedly) eligible for non-extra-fee? Or  In order to qualify for 2000 free contacts I first need to purchase a package of 8000?

I have read your response carefully and thank you for your clarification. My situation is like this -

In Dynamics 365 I have close to 8,000 contacts. In practice  for marketing needs I need about 750-800 contacts - TOP.  Now I have a few questions

    1. How do I separate "regular" contacts  from "marketing needs" contacts ?

    2. Is the limit of 2,000 miles per month? Year ? One-time package?

    Thanks.

    Hi Alexyou,

Marketing is licensing based on marketable contacts, not just contacts.  The 2000K contact starter set with the 10+ CE or Dynamics Plan licenses is just that -- a starter set.  You can try it out and see if this is something you want to use.  If you stay within the 2000 marketable contacts and the 20000 emails, you don't have to purchase anything additional.  If you wish to market to additional contacts, then the additional content packs come into play.  If you want to look into that, I would suggest you work with a partner or your usual provider to get additional information and pricing to make sure you get the best deal possible.  So no, you are not required out of the box to buy the additional contact pack.

    Hope this helps!

    Megan
