Is it possible to export the .pbix file from the Finance App for Power BI in BC v26.2?

Hi everyone,
I hope you’re doing well.

I’m working with Business Central v26.2 and using the Finance App template for Power BI. I tried to download the .pbix file, but it doesn’t allow me to do so.
Just to clarify, I don’t want to customize the report — I only want to apply a filter to reduce the query when retrieving data. The challenge I’m facing is that when I download the Finance App report and try to connect it to the production environment, I get a data connection error. However, when I connect it to a test company with a smaller data volume, it works fine.
Could you please help me by indicating the path or sharing any information on whether it’s possible to export this template? I truly believe that being able to open it in Power BI Desktop would allow me to apply the filter and resolve the connection issue.
I would really appreciate any guidance or advice you could provide.

P.S.: I’m currently using a Power BI Pro license.

Thank you so much in advance for your time and support!

Is it possible to export the .pbix file from the Finance App for Power BI in BC v26.2?

    Hi,

Thanks for your question! You're absolutely right—being able to apply filters directly in Power BI Desktop can help manage large datasets more efficiently.

Unfortunately, Microsoft does not currently allow direct export of the .pbix file from the Finance App for Power BI when used with Business Central SaaS (v26.2). These templates are managed and published by Microsoft, and the .pbix files are not exposed for download by default.

However, here are a few options you can consider:

    1. Recreate the Report Manually: You can replicate the Finance App report by connecting Power BI Desktop to your Business Central environment using the OData or API endpoints. This gives you full control over queries and filters.

    2. Use Power BI Parameters: If you recreate the report, you can define parameters to limit the data retrieved—this is especially useful for filtering by company, date range, or document type.

    3. Check AppSource or GitHub: Occasionally, Microsoft or community contributors publish sample .pbix files. It’s worth checking AppSource or GitHub repositories related to Business Central and Power BI.

    4. Submit Feedback: You can suggest this feature via the Power BI Ideas portal or the Business Central Ideas portal. Microsoft actively monitors these for improvements.

Let me know if this helps, and please mark the response as helpful if it answered your question.

    Best regards!

    Hi,

As per my knowledge, Microsoft Provide a GitHub from where we can download the PBIX File.

Can You Export the .PBIX File?
Unfortunately, Microsoft does not allow direct download of the .PBIX file for the Finance App from AppSource or Power BI Service. These template apps are designed to be used as-is and customization is limited unless Microsoft explicitly provides the .PBIX file.
This is a known limitation for many Power BI template apps published by Microsoft.
Workaround to Apply Filters Without Customizing the Report
Since your goal is to reduce query volume (especially for large production datasets), here are two practical options:
Option 1: Use Parameters During Initial Setup
    When installing the Finance App:
    1. Use the “Connect to Business Central” wizard.
    2. Select specific companies, date ranges, or dimensions to limit data.
    3. This reduces the volume pulled into Power BI and avoids timeouts.
Option 2: Use Power BI Desktop with a Custom Query
If you can’t download the .PBIX file, you can rebuild a lightweight version:
    1. Open Power BI Desktop.
    2. Use OData feed from Business Central:
       https://api.businesscentral.dynamics.com/v2.0/{tenant}/Production/ODataV4/
    1. Connect to tables like:
      • G_L_Entries
      • Customer
      • Vendor
      • ChartOfAccounts
    2. Apply filters in Power Query Editor (e.g., date range, company, dimensions).
    3. Publish this report to Power BI Service.
This gives you full control over filtering and performance.
    Additional Tips
    • Use Incremental Refresh on large tables like G_L_Entries if you're on Power BI Pro or Premium.
    • Avoid pulling unnecessary columns or historical data unless needed.
Note: This response was created in collaboration with Microsoft Copilot to ensure clarity and completeness. I hope it helps to some extent.

As far as I know this is not currently possible. This is similar to how we cannot download app files from partners on AppSource.
And there is currently no support for extending Microsoft's standard Power BI reports.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.
