Record Level Security - How to modify to allow the selection of multiple companies

We will be using record level security and I see that for each query, a single company can be selected. Has anyone modified this functionality to allow for multiple or all companies to be selected? As record level security needs to be applied on a number of user groups and we have over 200 companies, this could be a very onerous set-up if we have to do this one company at a time.

Also, some of the tables that will have record level security will be virtualized - not sure if this affects the record level security functionality.
