Issue Installing D365 F&O Visual Studio Extension after Power Platform Tools Setup

Hi,

In Visual Studio 2022, after installing the Power Platform Tools, we were able to successfully connect to the UDE Dataverse instance.

During the metadata setup in Visual Studio, we were prompted to download metadata. The D365 FinOps assets were downloaded, and the PackagesLocalDirectory was successfully extracted.

However, the D365 F&O Visual Studio extension is not getting installed. We also tried installing the downloaded extension manually, but the “Configure Metadata” option is still not visible in Visual Studio.

Please advise on the next steps to resolve this.

Hi,

Configuration of metadata happens automatically if you have a checkbox on:

However, if for some reasons, the configuration is not created, you can create it manually, using the process mentioned here.

Make sure to completion of the manual installation steps before creating the configuration yourself.

Hi Raj,

Most likely after a restart of Visual Studio, it will ask for installing the remaining components that were downloaded together with all package details.

There can be a difference between a not visible menu for the Configure metadata or not enabled. In case it is not enabled, then connect to the online environment again.

Hi @Raj Borad,

Make sure you have proper VS Individual Components installed with the following requirements.

A Dataverse environment with the F&O development tools installed.
Visual Studio 2022 with the Modelling SDK and DGML Editer installed.
LocalDB installed
Admin rights on your local PC

were you able to find a solution?

I am facing exactly the same issue.

Created a new PPAC Unified Dev Environment

Created a new VM with VHD from LCS

I am able to connect to connect to Dataverse

Download and installation is successfully, unfortunately we cannot see the menu item "configure metadata"

The note from the documentation does not help...

"This is not required when auto setup is enabled. If you don't see the Configure Metadata option, open Extensions > Dynamics 365 > Infolog and retry."

Anyone a suggestion or fix?

Hi @Raj Borad,

We had a workshop with Microsoft yesterday where we noticed that there is a new add-on for Dynamics 365 FO Platform Tools in Power Platform admin center. Just re-install it and connect to Data verse and do the pre-requisite steps. The issue with the UDE environment will be resolved. The step mentioned by Sohaib is a handy step too which should enable the auto setups for UDE Environments.

Thanks for the guidance shared earlier. Unfortunately, the steps did not resolve the issue for us.

Here’s what we’ve done so far:

update "Dynamics 365 FO Platform Tools" in the Power Platform admin center this morning

Set up a second unified environment and copied a UAT environment into it.

Updated Visual Studio 2022 to the latest version.

Verified all prerequisites.

Successfully connected to Dataverse in VS2022 and confirmed SQL JIT credentials are working.

Executed “Download Dynamics 365 FinOps apps” and checked the logs in both:

C:\Users\localadmin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Dynamics365\Logs

C:\Users\localadmin\AppData\Local\Temp\2 (VSIX installation)

No errors were found in the logs, but we are still unable to see the “Configure Metadata” menu item.

Do you have any additional suggestions or troubleshooting steps we could try?

Hi,

Please run the setup again. Make sure DGML Editor, Modelling SDK and SQL server express 2019 LocalDB components are installed in visual studio.

rerunning the setup did not resolve our issue.

We are not getting prompted for elevated permissions for the extension to register the URLProtocoloHandler, setup build targets, ... on the first start of Visual studio after updating/installing the "Microsoft.Dynamics.FinOps.ToolsVS2022.vsix".

When running it says "This extension is already installed to all applicable products"

Any idea/suggestion?
