Server cumulative update is not identical to the client cumulative.

Hi all,

The server machine we have has NAV 2016 CU9. But on my local machine, I have installed NAV 2016 CU5 only.

When I try to access the RTC from my local machine of server's NAV instance thru the dev environment, it pops me a message saying my client RTC and server RTC version ain't the same. I don't face any major issue, but I wanted to ask for the recommendation of the community on this?

    Hi Nareshwar,

Better to Open from DVD, No need to install, Something Like:

    Development Enviornment:

    C:\Temp Delete\CU 9 -2016---492355_ENU_i386_zip\NAV.9.0.46290.NA.DVD\RoleTailoredClient\program files\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\90\RoleTailored Client\finsql.exe

    RTC:

    C:\Temp Delete\CU 9 -2016---492355_ENU_i386_zip\NAV.9.0.46290.NA.DVD\RoleTailoredClient\program files\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\90\RoleTailored Client\Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.exe

And Put server instance details. so you won't get any issue.

    And it works nicely.

Suggestion would be to use the same builds. Though no much harm, better go with latest platform(exe) builds, so we can avoid the platform build issues.

    Regards

    Hi Nareshwar,

I would agree to what all have suggested. Just to get some clarity -

    > Any Specific reasons for not having server and client build as same?

** I know is hard to update client if there are so many clients, but you can configure the one click if that is the case.

If you are not applying the application part of the exe, then i dont see a problem except if there is a Platform (exe) fix released which impact client. Some Examples of Platform fix for Client -

    CU 06 -

Data is lost after you move data to a non-compiled object.

    CU 07 -

There is insufficient memory to execute this function" error message when you use the Reverse Register function.

    CU 08 -

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error message when the Windows client crashes due to declaring a .net variable on a page that runs on the client with events.

    CU 09 -

RTC crashes when you open text file with encoding UTF8.

My suggestion would be to update the clients with same build number.

Agreed with Saurav and all the others. There is no major immediate harm, but it is not worth a risk.
