NAV 2016 is slow in Azure.

Hello Experts,

Recently We have upgraded Nav 2013R2 to NAV 2016 and deployed Microsoft dynamics nav 2016 in Azure.

We followed Two - VM Deployment in Azure

-------------------------------------------------

VM-1   - Dynamics Nav 2016 (CU4) application and we have created 9 different instances.

VM-1 Configuration  : 4Core,28GB RAM

VM-2  - SQL Server 2014 SP2, Database Size is around 300GB

VM-2 Configuration  : 8Core,56GB RAM

We have created Active Domain(AD) Controller to client premises from azure. and then we have installed Nav 2016 Client in every user system. We have almost 40 concurrent users. User's will connect nav using Internal Ip's Only.

Everyonece is connecting to One instance -'DynamicsNAV90' with using Internal Ip's.

Remaining 8 instances - 3 for Scanners in one location

3 for Scanners in another location

                                       1 for Webservice

                                       1 for background process.

Now the problem is nav is getting slow for sometime in a day for every user. Remaining time it is ok.

We have tried all the ways there is no any background process at that particular time. Everything seems ok but still users facing lot of slowness fro a period of time. at the same time in azure local nav application really working fine and speed also Good. web client also working fast in users system but RTC slow.

Could you please help me on this.

Than You

Mahesh U

    Dear Mahesh U  ,

Can you identified , if any user running larger data report ?

Is it happen every day ? , any Particular time or random ?

    Hi Mohana,

Thank you for the link. As per the link they are saying to instead of creating 2 VM's Make it 1VM for both nav and SQL Server. I want to tell one thing while try to resolve this speed issue we tried several ways in that I also created one instance in SQL Server itself and given that instance to three users event though they are facing same isuue.

    Hi Maneesha,

it is not occurring at particular time randomly in a day mostly everyday it becomes slow and there is no special background process or heavy reports are running at that time.

    Thank You

    Mahesh U

ok thats means this case not belongs to system level i think

have you check the event log on that times ?

I feel like your cores are running max capacity by some time but im not sure

check (if its possible) performance and running services  , at the time your system got slow

As you state the client running in Azure has no issues at the time when users are using their own clients, can this be a bandwidth issue of the location where users are operating? Can you measure the bandwidth and network latency?

    Hello Alex,

I have asked about bandwidth. But they are saying that they had good enough bandwidth like 43MB Download speed and 50MB Upload Speed.

Any how i found one link from Mohana link.

    blog.stryk.info/.../navsql-is-completely-stalled-because-of-too-many-cpu-threads

I have Set the values in SQL Server using below scripts.

    EXEC sys.sp_configure N'max degree of parallelism', N'2'

    GO

    EXEC sys.sp_configure N'cost threshold for parallelism', N'60'

    GO

    EXEC sys.sp_configure N'max worker threads', N'2048'

    GO

    RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE

    GO

Then i have restarted all the instances and Sql Server Service also.

We have reviewed yesterday users are saying Over all performance was little bit slow but they didnt get any hanging this time.

I want to review some more days.

Thank you Mohana for the link.

    Regards

    Hi,

    1) You can run the SQL profiler and then monitor it for couple of days to identify which are the process been run during the system slow time period. If you can see any pattern then you might be able to fix that.

    2) Other thing is monitor the network bandwidth of the office, because may be someone is taking the bandwidth more than required and which makes others connectivity slow ( I do not think this is the case since web client is working fine).

    * Implementation methodology you have used to implement Dynamics NAV is bit old. Reason is, in new implementations people do not go for 2 VM structure because it is a extra cost and performance issue. People most of the times go for SQL as a service implementation which gives best performance.

    Hi All,

Finally problem has been resolved. Problem is to connect nav from users system using "Public IP" not with Internal IP. We have changed to public IP then system performance drastically changed. and also the link which i have mentioned in above post it helped somehow.

    Thank You Everyone.
