Hi, does someone know if MS has release some standard functionality which will secure that businesses in UK can electronically transfer VAT return information directly from the digital VAT records to HMRC’s computer systems (known as ‘Functional Compatible Software’)?
Follow the instructions here: docs.microsoft.com/.../emea-gbr-mtd-vat-integration
Hi Guys - could you please share any info you have on Making Tax Digital - thanks
Hi DJW, my understanding from interpreting HMRC and other explanations of what constitutes 'digital' when working in excel is... When you export data to excel it IS NOT digital. When that data is subject to excel formulae it IS digital (i.e. not manual). So, the way I would prepare the VAT Return is that I would:
a. Download data to excel, in your case for all the entities (not digital)
b. Create formulae uses that data to generate an output which is your VAT Return in a format suitable for uploading to your Bridging software (digital)
I would prepare the spreadsheet in such a way that formulae are consistent each time you download data, then lock down (make them uneditable) the cells that contain the formulae and also lock down the output VAT Return. This adds a layer of protection.
c. Upload the VAT Return to your Bridging software (digital)
d. Submit your VAT Return from the Bridging software to HMRC (digital)
Meanwhile we hope that Microsoft will develop a solution for VAT Groups before 31/3/2020
Regards,
Lee
Hello My company is a group for VAT purposes. I have found some bridging software to use initially ( I think I just create an excel template to upload into it) but from April 2020 I must have a digital link from my accounting software to the file the bridging software will submit to HMRC.
I can export my VAT reports to excel or to a pdf, but then I need to consolidate them, and as this would have to be a manual process ( I could use links to a master report etc) I don't think this satisfies the criteria of a digital link. I have not yet loaded the patch for MTD ( because it does not have group Vat functionality) but would this help me in any way? Are there any other solutions to this problem pending Microsoft providing the function lity we need?
Hi, Microsoft is running a Web Conference to explain and demo the new Making Tax Digital software on Thursday 14th March. The link is: www.d365ug.com/.../generic
You can also sign up for notifications on the progress of AX2012 R3 and D365FO software for Making Tax Digital using these links:

Hope this helps,
Any updates on this topic, Q1 2019 is almost over and I cant find anything released from MSFT to address the MTD requirements? I can see some GER reports though, will those do the job? We are on version 1611. Will MSFT release KB for it?
Thanks
Hi Andy, the functionality (Microsoft's Making Tax Digital software) will not cope with Group VAT Returns. I am optimistic that Microsoft will develop a solution to cater for Group VAT Returns at some point in the future however, until then, VAT Groups need to adopt a Bridging solution (or a third party provider of a Bridging solution).
Microsoft's Making Tax Digital software solution is NOT available for AX2012 R2 CU7. Unless the user is prepared to upgrade to AX2012 R3 or D365FO, they will need to adopt a Bridging solution (or a third party provider of a Bridging solution)
Does anyone know if this functionality will also cope with group VAT registration, .e. a single return for a group of legal entities with a single VAT registration?

This question was also asked about a week ago on this forum. MTD will be supported. Microsoft has plans to release it in Q1 2019. It will be available for D365FO and also AX 2012 R3.

Hi Mr André,
I would like to ask if this MTD will be available for AX 2012 R2 CU7 as well? Since we see from your comment above MS currently has plan for AX 2012 R3 and D365FO.
