Analysis Services : Either the user does not have access to the Dynamics AX database, or the database does not exist.

Hello everyone,

I am struggling with OLAP issues.

I installed OLAP Cubes and analysis project according to the Microsoft instructions on our Test system. This Test system runs AOS, SQL and client on one machine.

Everything deploys like expected. When I connect to Analysis services trough Excel using my admin account, I retrieve the data from the cubes without issues.

However: when I try to open the standard "Pipeline analysis" Report in AX2012 (Sales and Marketing > Reports) it says:

"Either the user, DOMAIN\srvAXTest, does not have access to the Dynamics AX database, or the database does not exist."

srvAXTest being the System service account (Business connector proxy).

Domain\srvAxtest is added in SQL Management studio as all roles:

Under Database > Security > Logins: User is added with  ALL server roles (dbcreator, diskadmin, securityadmin etc. etc.)

Under Analysis Server Database > Roles > Added the user to a role

I think the "Pipeline analysis" report uses OLAP to generate the data. I think I forget something, but I do not have a clue what is is...

Anyone an idea to point me in the right direction?

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Willem van Duren

    Hello Willem!

Try oppening Management Studio and connect to the SSAS and than right click above the server name and clicl properties...

And now add the right accounts to the SSAS!

Sometimes it is necessary to run the Management Studio as Adminnistrator!

    Hello Francisco,

    Thank you for your reply.

The account was already added as Server administrator account. So this cannot be the cause unfortunately.

    Kind regards, Willem.

In the analisys server properties is there any other user account?

Does the Dynamics AX database exist?

    Hi Francisco,

Under Analysis Server Properties > Security there are 4 users:

    - Domain\srvAXTest (the user I need)

    - Domain\srvAXProd (this is the business connector user for the live environment, not needed)

    - Domain\Willem (my user, added to be sure)

    - Domain\LKLAdminW (my admin user, added to be sure)

The Dynamics AX database does exist. I can use the data from Excel.

Can you see if at the Event Viewer is there anything else?

    Not really.

One Error from SharePoint Foundation, however when I request the Report again, the error is not directly re-generated.

    SharePoint Foundation - Claims Authentication:

    --------------------------------------------------------

An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Negotiate'. The authentication header received from the server was 'NTLM'..

Also some warnings of SharePoint Foundation Search:

A database error occurred. Source: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0 Code: 1205 occurred 1 time(s) Description: Transaction (Process ID 70) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.

    Context: Application 'Search_index_file_on_the_search_server'

I know that your user account do have all necessary privilegies... but just for testing purposes... can you run AX as Administrator and try to open the report?...

Willem, please validate the security settings in sql direcly from security -> logins.

You may find orphaned security settings when checking on the database -> security -> logins.

Other thoughts, I can disable OLAP in my contoso test machine and still call the pipeline report. I think the problem lies in you reporting settings.

Locate the report direcly in your browser (it is the smmPipelineAnalysis.BarChart  report) and see if you can open it there.
