I am exploring RSAT tool and quite new to it. I am just looking for an answer here if anything changes in fin Ops application, how easy is it to change the test cases/recordings ?

Do we need to go to FinOps and create the task recording all over again ? how easy it is in RSAT to maintain the test cases?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi partner,

What exactly are the editorial you are referring to, there are some operations that can be done after the recording is complete.

    Please check:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../task-recorder

Thanks Will for your reply... So I am referring here about the maintainability of test recordings... if I have created 100 test cases with 100 recordings attached to it and if there is a change in my functionality say if one field or mandatory text box has been added before submitting the form, which means do I need to go and record tasks for all those 100 test cases again ? or is there an option to edit the recordings and add those extra field in recordings in RSAT tool ?

you can edit your task recording and sync again. You don't have to record all of them again, suggest you to use the derived test case for different test scenario without record the same process again just different value on the parameter file.

I have mixed results with this.

    1. Sometimes recording a new step puts it in completely the wrong place and completely messes up the steps (they look OK in the recorder, but the new step is No 1 in Excel)

    2. Make a new recording.xml, replace the attachment in the test case in Azure DevOps, go to RSAT and regenerate parameter file, etc: test still has the old steps.

Seems to be hit and mess, and editing the recording is not a good experience. So far, I've found to quicker to re-record the tast (and then have to make a new test because it doesn't seem to update with the new recording)

(for those planning to post a link to the documentation as an answer, save your keystrokes: YES I have read the documentation.)

Yes, editing recording is not the best experience always, however, if you have plenty of steps, it is frustrating to record from the beginning again.

Your no2 should be worked because RSAT is connecting to DevOps to sync, what I do normally is going via BPM as your test case is syncing from BPM to DevOps again, not only the recording.xml but also the steps in test cases.

You can try and see if this works, save the recording to LCS, sync it to DevOps, then RSAT pulls it again.

I agree no 2 should work. I'm not syncing from LCS - creates way too much clutter in DevOps.

Attaching the new recording to Devops should do exactly the same. I even deleted the RSAT folder for the test case I updates. If I make a new test and attach the same recording, it works fine, so I know recording is good

Thanks all for your reply. To this context only I have one question regarding the edit recording option, it would be really helpful if anyone knows the answer. I was trying to edit the recording from finance and operations app (browsed my recording from my pc), add extra steps in between (added new lines in asset management )and then saved it as a developer recording. Now when I go to my test case in RSAT I need to delete the old recording.xml and need to attach the new edited one but in this case it asks me to regenerate the parameter file which deletes all my formulas i had added earlier. Is there any way where I can edit my recording, add extra steps without loosing my formulas or other values which I added earlier. Thanks.

I haven't found a way to do this (I just make a copy of my old param file, generate the new one and copy and paste)

Would love to know if there is a way to do it
