Dear All,

Our inventory has difference with GL balance.  When we run HITB report all the balance on each ledger of HITB is not equal to GL balance.  It also has some more GL which is not a inventory ledgers.  Can anyone suggest how to handle this situation.  I would like to run the HITB Reset Tool under Inventory utilities but its not visible.  Did anyone had this problem, please help me.

Thanks,

Babu

Babu, the HITB Reset tool is a separate install, installed by dropping a .cnk file in the GP folder.  Your first step, if it hasn't been done yet, is to acquire the tool specific to your GP version and install it.

Then you'll be able to launch the reset process.  Follow the instructions included with the tool very explicitly, and note that depending on how much item transaction history you have in your system, the reset process can take hours to days to complete.  I recently completed the HITB reset for a client and it took a full weekend to complete.  The most time-consuming part is the inventory reconcile process.

    Hello Babu,

So long no see, it is been a while since we've received inquiries from you on the community.

The process of resetting inventory balances is not as easy as expected sometimes, especially that all your inventory issues that have been escalated for quite a long time with no HITB table will show up at once.

There are apparently two approaches usually that could be considered when resetting the inventory balances, the first one is to withdraw all you inventory balance at once to a a zero quantity so that any positive or negative cost could be handled, then run the reset tool and then bring in your inventory balances back. This is usually my favorite approach as it gives me more precise answers on how to control the variances.

The other approach is to run the reset tool, accept the variances as is and post the corrective journal entries, amounts posted need to be thoroughly analyzed and figured out for each inventory account before proceeding.

Few technical analysis provided on the reference below which could be in relevant importance to your task; HITB Essentials Series– HITB Reset Tool and SEE Tables

    Dear Frank,

Thanks for your kind reply.  Yes I used the HITB.CNK file and launched the GP and its asked whether to include and I press ok and all went fine.  But still after going in to GP I cant find the HITB Reset Tool, what will be the reason for this.

    Dear Mahmoud,

Thanks a lot for your kind reply.  I want to run the reset tool but I cant find even after adding .cnk file on the GP folder and running GP can you please confirm what I am missing.

    thanks,

    babu

I do believe that your problem could be related to the version of HITB installed as Mr. Frank indicated above. As shown below, you need to install the HITB reset tool version which is associated with your Dynamics GP Version.

Furthermore, the steps to install the reset tool is simply started with the cnk file, then running the HITBIVResetProcedures.sql script downloaded with the tool. Don't forget to log in with the "sa" user .

Ensure that all the IV transactions are posted and then go to  Microsoft Dynamics GP menu >> Tools >> Utilities >> Inventory >> HITB IV  Reset Tool.

Don't forget, this is all to be done on a test environment.

    The following references could be quite important;

    Dear Mahmoud,

Thanks for your kind reply.  My GP Version is 10.00.1685 and cnk file HTB5597.  can you please confirm is this correct version.

    thanks,

    babu

Babu, 5597 is the product number of the tool, not the version.  You need to ensure you have downloaded the correct version from CustomerSource or your MSFT partner can get it for you from PartnerSource.  It will be identified specifically for GP 10 in the download menu choices.

Alternatively, you may need to just run the HITB scripts to complete the installation, as Mahmoud indicates above.

    Dear Frank & Mahmoud,

Thanks a lot for your kind reply.  Sorry I didn't read fully before replying :-) yes I went and downloaded the SQL query file as well as IVReset.CNK file for GP10.  My next question is to run the sql query I have a test company which one of the DB and all other DBs are live company in production server.  Do I have to have complete set of test server to do this or can I run it one of the test company on the liver server.  Also when I copy the cnk file and launch the GP do I have to logout all the users in GP on different companies.

    Thanks,

    Babu

Babu, you can install it on just one company and no, you don't have to have everyone out of GP to install, although as a matter of practice, I like to have users exit when possible anytime I'm adding new code to the system.

The steps performed throughout the IV reset is well known and they don't mess up with the inventory tables, what it does is simply reconsidering all IV cost layers to be imported into SEE30303, primarily taking into consideration the IV-GL link.

I have done it several times on live environment, with no associated negative ramification. Although,I wouldn't recommend doing it on a live and operational environment since you have no experience with the factors to be considered.

My recommendation is to create a test environment and enjoy playing with the SEE tables and inventory cost layers :)

    Dear Mahmoud & Frank,

Thanks a lot for your kind help on this matter.  I have installed the HITB reset tool now.  I am looking for all the unposted batch and posting it before running it.  I am just worried about anything will be hanging around which I have not noticed in Manufacturing and Project accounting.  Is there any easy way to find what all are the batch not posting in these modules.

    Thanks,

    Babu
