Write back data with odata in excel

Posted on by 32,675

hi,

reading nav data with odata service as data source works quite fine in excel.

is there a standard way to write changed data back to nav database using that nav odata webservice (e.g. published page sales order)?

is there a ready to use excel addin for that issue? i tried savetodb, but it does not work correctly with nav odata web services.

Hi, Thx for the hint. I know that addin. It only accepts https connection. I want the possibility to connect to http odata sources.

    Hi Jonathan,

There is an add-in available on the Microsoft Office Store (you can get to it from Excel > Insert) called Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-In.

It is the tool used by Microsoft for the Edit-In-Excel functionality, but you can initiate this connection directly from Excel as well.

If you perform the necessary prerequisite work to get the Edit-in-Excel functionality working for your instance of NAV, then you can use this tool in Excel to connect to NAV, see a list of Web Services, create a certain template with the desired fields available through the Web Service, and Refresh this data from NAV as well as publish data into NAV.

Take a look at this blog post of mine: letstalknav.com/.../overcoming-dynamics-365-data-migration-blues-importing-balances-and-historical-data

Even though it's written for Dynamics 365 for Financials, the Edit in Excel walkthrough applies to NAV as well.

I hope this helps! If my response has answered your question, please verify by clicking Yes next to "Did this answer your question?"

Mmmm... I remember Freddy was blogging on similar topic - is that what you mean? blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../edit-in-excel-r2-part-1-out-of-2 and further...

Also, JetReports might have this possibility, but I never tried... Check this (https://community.jetreports.com/viewtopic.php?t=2823)
