NAV 2009 Packaging Order:

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

We buy product (Item #1) in bulk and repackage into smaller units (Item #2); we are currently using a Production Order with BOM and all the discipline that is involved, our thought was to include the packaging (bag) and labels etc. However it seems like a lot of effort for the physical work that is being done.

We are not concerned with Labour content, nor Production/Capacity planning - I just want to make bags from a case and give it a different Item number (it now has a different package).

We have a few complexities: it is an organic product so the yield is not always predictable - often produce more than is ordered, unit of measure changes (case to bag or pounds), we are using Item Tracking and Warehouse Management.

Has anyone a very simple solution? I am hoping for a reclassification or adjustment type of process!

Thanks in advance!

If you do not want to use production orders, why not use item journal and do adjustments?

    Hi Ernie,

    Welcome to the community!

Another suggestion is to create a location and issue the bulk to that location. You can sell out of the location and cycle count it for your yeild issues.  Your main concern will be the costing aspect if you don't use a production order / BOM Journal.

Thank you for the suggestion Alex; we considered adjustments, however with Item Tracking and WMS there are still a lot of steps. And it would mean that I need some sort of worksheet just to record the 'ins and outs' and then I have a cost issue as well.

I like it because it is simple; but I was hoping that I over-looked another simple solution that gives me the Tracking and Costing without much effort!

    Again - thanks!

    Hello Dave:

We have tried this 'additional location' but since we are using WMS we have to Transfer inventory to the new location (Pick/Ship/Receive etc), and then we still have the Production Order as you suggest for costing.

Since we are using Item Tracking our 'flushing methods' are limited and adds to the administration.

It sounds like it is time for automation.

Thank you for the suggestion - I was hoping for a 'light Production Order' that I had over-looked.
