Hello,
If someone has multiple email addresses – if one bounces, will that impact the performance of trying to email the other address (in other words – are email bounces tied to the person or the email address)? Documentation seems to point to just the email address…but I’d like to confirm if possible.
Thank you for your help,
Lynn
Hello,
Thank you for your response. A follow up question.
[View:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/marketing/prepare-marketing-emails:750:50] -> " To address: This should almost always be set to {{ contact.emailaddress1 }}, which sends the message to each contact included in the customer journey that sends the email. You might change this to use a different email address field (such as emailaddress2), or enter a dynamic expression that chooses the best of several available email fields."
Does the segment only use the primary address or is it possible to select the primary and another email address associated with the contact within the same segment? For example: Home and Work. In the documentation I reference above I see that we can select a different email address. However, I wanted to confirm that applies to segments and to ask if it's possible to communicate to two email addresses for a single contact within the same segment.
Thank you,
Lynn
Hi Lynn,
Email addresses are tied to the contact. So if a person has multiple email addresses on a contact, the segment uses the primary email address. And if that primary email is a bad address say, then it will bounce for that particular contact. If you have multiple contacts for the same person with different emails and one is bad, then the bounce will be tied to that particular contact record but the rest will be unaffected.
Thanks,
Megan
