Printing from batch - Follow me printers

Hi all

We've been testing printing from AX and noticed that the AX service account is being sticked on the print job that's being added in the Windows print queue when printing in batch. This seems logical as the batch server process (ax32serv.exe) that runs under this user's context is probably adding the print jobs.

Problem: we kind of need the correct user id (from the end user that scheduled the print in batch) on that job to be able to couple this print task to this user's physical batch (follow me printer principle).

Anyone any ideas or experience with this?

I noticed D365 seems to have a solution for this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/dev-itpro/analytics/install-document-routing-agent

But we're still on 2012R3 :-)

    Hello Tim,

for example: if you use RDS to publish the AX Client. On each RDS server, in the RDS Farm, install the network printers using the port assigned by the follow me printer. When users log on to AX through the published AX client, they will see all the network printers installed on the server. They select the printer they want to print to and print without select batch. The follow me printing then gets managed by whatever app you have implemented and whichever printer the user scans there ID on that's where the printer comes out. Hope this gives you some idea's!

Hi Boris, thanks a lot for your input! Really appreciate it.

Printing from client will work correctly, however some reports run a long time (finance reports, 30min+) and we might even want to schedule it monthly. Those will have the AX service account's user id...

So, printing in client only is not an option i'm afraid :(

    Hi Tim,

I totally understand the long running reports and need to print those through Batch. I didn't mean only client, but in addition to Batch, also use client printing. As far as I know, your only other option is, creating the batch under the user name you want the batch to execute the job as. However, if that user ever leaves the company and the account is disabled, you will have to recreate the batch job with a new user name.

it doesnt work even when scheduled under a client's account.. the print job gets queued by the ax service account as the ax32serv.exe process gets executed in that account :(
