Login issue Dynamics GP 2015

I inherited a system and I am trying to login to Dynamics 2015. Checked the ODBC connection and it passes the test. I don't know any account that can login. I went into SQL and changed the password to the DYNSA account and set the account to sysadmin. Prompts it can't login to contact system admin. The password is under 15 characters. I fear changing the SA account password due to messing up any other system or anything that might be dependant on that password for something. Even if I do wouldn't the DYNSA account work the same if its set as a sysadmin?

I have the same question (0)

Never change the password in SQL and expect the password to work in GP. Log into GP as 'sa' and then change the DYNSA password using GP.

I don't know the SA password and fear changing it. If I change it in SQL it will for sure let me in?

That is a tough call. Do you have any other services or applications that use the 'sa' password? If you log into SSMS using windows credentials and change the 'sa' password you will be able to go into GP as 'sa' and reset the DYNSA password.

kcranmer, I am with Richard on this one - it is not just changing the password for SA to get into GP, it is the other services or tasks that are using SA to access the data - not a best practice, but lets face it - it happens all the time.

Another option would be to create a SQL User - cranmer - and make it a sysadmin just as SA - make sure it has access to the Dynamics and Company DB's just as SA would - then use that to login to GP

Once in GP - create yourself a 'poweruser' and then make the password changes for the other users.

I have had to do this in the past where I have IT team that owns the SQL Server and will not give up the SA password - so I make my own admin account.  Then we are all happy

Hope this, along with Richards suggestions brings you to a successful solution.
