Can we install MS Dynamics AX 2012 R2/R3 in Windows 7/8?

Hi All,

I want to know that can we install MS Dynamics AX 2012 R2/R3 in Windows 7/8?

If yes then how?

How can we create domain and domain accounts in Windows 7/8 which we need to install SQL and AX?

Please provide me any document/blog if you have which I can follow and install AX in Windows 7/8.

Dear Hasan,

I think we cannot create domain in windows 7/8. You can join to create with exitsing domain.

Dear Prashant,

I have already tried it.

Can you please give me answers of my some other questions?

1. Can I create a domain in my other laptop which already have Windows server 2012 R2 to join in my current laptop on which I have windows 7?

2. I have tried step 1 over WLAN network but I could not able to join domain.

3. Can you tell me what is the issue here which I am facing?

1. Yes

2. Connect these two laptop. Give your IP windows 7/8 from the same group of IP assigned to windows server. So that you can ping your windows 7 machine with the IP of windows server.

3. You issue is your windows server cannot communicate with windows server.

If they will communicate you can join that domain.

Can you please explain step 2 of giving IP?

I don't know where can I assign IP to windows 7 and windows server from the same group.

Hi Hassan,

Can you explain the purpose of having AX 2012 installed on Win7/8? Have you also looked at the option to use a virtual machine and have Win7/8 the host for this VM?

Hi Andre,

Because, I have only 8 GB RAM in my current laptop.

I have already VM but it makes my system and VM both very slow.

Therefor, I want to install AX in Windows 7.

Hi Hassan,

For your question what operating system is supported with AX 2012 R3 please have a look on system requirements for Dynamics AX 2012 R3 from here download.microsoft.com/.../AX2012SystemRequirements.pdf

If you are trying to install Dynamics AX 2012 R3 on your laptop with 8GB RAM, I am afraid this is also going to kill your machine. The best option for you to mount VM after increasing RAM to at least 12 GB.
