Wouldn't the documentation (Inventory tag counting) give you some idea?

    RE: Tag Counting

    Dear Sir,

Please find the below what I understood from the tag counting journal

What i understood is that it counts the inventory and when we post the tag counting it transfers the tag counting to Inventory counting journal and creates a new journal for counting journal.

But my question is that if it is so then why we dont use directly inventory counting journal . Why we are using Tag counting journal then??

    RE: Tag Counting

    Hi Akshay,

Tags are physical cards with unique ids that you appose to your items.  It is a warehouse floor process to counting, the warehouse coordinator collects all the cards and recopies the information in AX / D365.  I dont want to say that it is an antiquated process, but I have not seen it in use in a long time.  I woudl not even talk to customers about it unless they described a current counting process that resembled Tag counting.

Here is an excellent article that explains it: www.to-increase.com/.../different-inventory-counting-methods.  Tag couting is discussed about half-way down.

    Refards,

    Danny

    RE: Tag Counting

Tag counting is a "full physical inventory" process. It offers you:

    1. Tag control: you physically have serialized tags.  You tell D365 / AX the start number and ending number and D365 will tell you if you didn't key any tags, thus they are missing and must be found. This is a primary control point in most physical inventories.
    2. Tag counting allows you to automatically insert zero count lines when it creates the counting journal.  This will easily show you a net change for a given location(s) and quantify the change in inventory value and quantities.
    3. Multiple people can key tags into a tag count journal at the same time.

I agree with others that this process is antiquated, but it does have a place for clients that don't have a robust cycle counting program.  And doing a "full cycle count" via the warehouse app is not the same as a full physical inventory.
