Long wait time to post a project invoice/proposal

(0) ShareShare

We're seeing that it takes a very long time (probably around 2 minutes) for AX to process a post request on an invoice proposal. Has anyone else encountered this and/or have any immediate thoughts on some likely culprits to investigate? SQL doesn't seem to be registering any unusual wait times, so it would appear that its above the database layer.

    Hi Gfadden,

Do you have any customizations in place for this or is it just Standard?

    Thanks,

    Baber.

Baber - This is stock AX. No customizations exist on invoice posting logic.

    Hi,

If you haven't done so, use the Trace Parser to log the posting process. See if there's any hint from the result.

    Hi,

Can you tell how many lines are used per invoice? Is it taking 2 minutes including printing the invoice or only posting? We have seen long times due to having a large number of lines on the invoice.

Hey Dominic -- We took your advice and used trace parser to see if anything stood out, and there were definitely two big culprits. Basically the entire time was spent looping through some payment retention logic, which we do not use. We ended up disabling payment retention functionality through license management, and then dropped it down to about the 15 second mark for generating an invoice...worlds better.

When we reran the trace today, the bulk of the leftover time is between two methods that do some of the heavy lifting for preparing and displaying the actual SSRS report and respective dialog box (SrsReportRunImpl::preRunReport and

PSAProjAndContractInvoiceController::runOutputReports). Would you expect that wait time on this might be more SSRS related than it is AX? Any performance tuning advice?

    Hi,

Can you have a look at my last question? How many lines are in general on your invoices? Preparing the data by the data provider may take some time for larger invoices.

At one customer we created a new data provider where the header and lines were prepared in separate tables instead of having per line the header info collected in the current temporary table. This will also require complete rework of the SSRS report, but we gained a lot of time with this.

You can also read the next blog from Microsoft support to see if you can improve the times using the tips provided: blogs.msdn.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-reporting-tips-how-to-improve-performance.aspx

Andre, In almost all cases, these invoices have 10 lines or less...5 or less on a consistent basis.

    Hi,

In that case, try to see if the blog from Microsoft Support can help you. Changing the data provider for 10 lines is hardly gaining anything.

    Hi,

Do check out the link Andre posted.

Brainstorming for other area to look at:  Long queries, SQL Wait statistics, Network I/O, Physical I/O, CPU utilization, etc.

Can't really tell which one would give you the best chance though.

If you haven't found a solution for this, there is a fix for this in CU9 if you are running R2.  I will endeavor to find the specific KB.
