Vendor Record - What is the purpose of the "Type" field?

Under the General Fast tab is a field called "Type."  Two options can be selected: Organization or Person.  What is the purpose of this field?

    A vendor may be a physical person or an organization (typically a company). They have different properties, for example, persons have the date of birth but not the number of employees.

    Yes, It is because Vendor may be any Single person of an Organization.
     
    If your Vendor is a Person, You should enter below required details.

    So besides the additional fields, there is no purpose.

    The main purpose is the identification of the type of the vendor (that's why the field is called Type). And then you can provide extra details specific to each type.
