applying retrospective value model changes to fixed assets not acquired yet

Hi all,

I have an environment of AX2012R2 CU7 with around 1000 assets created but not acquired.  The FA module isn't currently in use.  The initial FA groups were set up with 2 different value models assigned to them, but I don't want to use either of them.

I have set up a new value model which I want all the Assets to adopt, however my understanding is that each FA picks up all it's 'settings' from the FA Group at the time of creation, so any changes I make later are not applied retrospectively.

I have tried the 'change fixed asset group' for an asset to a new FA group with the correct set up, but this doesn't work, the old value models remain attached to the FA.

Is there any way I can apply changes or refresh the assets already created to pick up new settings to the FA group and value models?

Just testing at the minute, but I cannot see how I can change parameters and settings etc to get the preferred results if any changes only apply to new assets, not the 1000 existing ones.

any ideas anyone please?

    Hi,

You'll need the help of a developer to make those changes to all your fixed assets. They should be able to delete the currently setup value models and replace them with the new ones that you need. Best regards,

thanks Ludwig, that sounds extreme, can I not do it in a table somewhere?  We have some technical skills in house, but it depends what is required.

so for testing purposes, am I right in thinking I have to set up new assets to with the new parameters to test every time I make a change?

    regards

    Hello AXfinance,

Setting up new fixed assets for testing purposes in a demo enviornment is fine.

Yet, if you need to change the value models of more than 1000 fixed assets in a live environment you cannot do that manually - unless you have very much time left for that task - and certainly need the help of a developer.

Simply changing the fixed asset group will not help you as changing the fixed asset group does not update the value models that have already been assigned to a fixed asset.

    Hope it helps,

    Ludwig
