I have a general journal entry which was created without a name and was saved. However, i am unable to delete it as all the action pane buttons are greyed out and i am unable to open the entry. What would be the best solution to remove this record given that it is on tier 2 environment.

Assuming this is D365 Finance.

I'm thinking of two things: The journal might be blocked, or the journal has been sent to workflow for approval or it has been approved by workflow.

Hi,

If it is not posted you can delete it. If the buttons are grayed out, then its due to missing permissions.

I dont know why you would want to do it, however, if you really want to delete a posted journal it is possible with this clean up job.
Unfortunately, you cant select a specific journal. You need to select a date, which exposes the risk of deleting other journals as well.

Keep in mind that the transaction is NOT reversed, just the journal is deleted. You could also delete the journal, reverse the transaction and create a new journal again.

the journal is not posted and is not blocked and i have sys admin permissions. :(

That's a good question... It's difficult to say without seeing the journal )-:
But as you said, it's just a Tier-2 environment so it might not be worth the effort. The fastest way is to copy the lines to a new journal and delete the old journal.

But before you do, can you check if you have a Workflow button?

Also, what exactly to do mean by opening the entry?

I'm sorry there is a typo, it is present in a tier 1 environment, on production server. And concerning the journal, i am unable to open it to show you the lines :) it is like the screenshot Jonas posted however all parameters are empty, only batch number is populated.

Huh... That should not happen, most likely some missing parameter somewhere. I thought you meant a journal line 😅

You will have to get a developer or Microsoft support to check it out, and delete it using a runnable job.

I don't want to recommend deleting it if you cannot see the content of the journal. There might be a reason why it's there (customization, integration etc.).

If i am unable to delete it from the front-end then there is no way to do so from another page correct? I would have to create an sql query to delete it.

I don't recall any pages that can do this.

So yes, something in the backend to examine and get rid of it. I would not recommend running SQL query to append/update records. You might end in a heap of trouble. And Microsoft support will not help if they see someone has been running SQL to manipulate data.
