OLAP database visibility problems on clients

Hello everyone.

I am struggling with the following issue.

I have a 3 tier setup (AOS, SQL, TEST servers).

I installed OLAP to a database using the wizard on the SQL machine. When I start the local AX client of the SQL server, the OLAP database shows fine (I go to analysis servers, select the SQL server, and in the second tab the OLAP-database shows up).

Now when I use another pc in our network with only a client install, I go to Analisys servers, select the server, but no OLAP-databases show up in the second tab. Also Excel cannot connect to the OLAP, it looks like it works, but eventually gives an error message.

Same counts for our TEST server. All works fine on the TEST server itsself, and I also can connect to OLAP using Excel on the TEST server without problems. But: on client pcs the database does not show up and Excel will not connect to the instance.

So my first thougt was "Firewall", so I opened up the following (inbound) ports: 2393, 2394, 2382, 2383, 2725 (all TCP).

Still no luck.

Maybe it has to do with user rights? I have to use my admin account to access the OLAP database, even on the local machine. Would that be a SQL server management studio setting ? or ...

Thank you in advance.

Willem.

Ok, I found out that it is indeed a "user permission" problem. When I log on locally with my admin account the databases show without any problem. Strange... where can I administer the permissions for the users?

    Hi Wvduren,

Please check this page for instructions on how to set permissions accessing OLAP Cubes.

    Hi Wduren

Here is a sweet method for pushing user permissions out using PowerShell:
