What Azure subscription should I purchase for Development and testing? (On-Premises)

Hi all, I was trying to figure out what Azure subscription I should buy to support the D365 On Premises application. I mean what products on azure? what is necessary? We are setting-up the development and testing environments (not for a customer but in our own Domain).

    Hi Waller,

    If you do have client machines (or a server) being able to host the downloadable VMs, there is no Azure subscription required; only a license for Visual Studio.

    If you don't have own hardware, you can consider Azure. In that case follow the proposed VM size to have acceptable performance. Usually I change it for myself to allow for slower performance as it is cheaper in computing hours. A DEV/Test environment can be shut down every night to save credits/costs.

    It is up to you how you do it. The VMs could be hosted on your own hardware if you want, but a decent server from an enterprise-grade manufacturer costs somewhere between 25 to 45.000 GBP depending on the CPU/RAM/Disk setup each, capable of hosting 10-20 VMs.

    You could do a costing depending on the selected hardware during the deployment of an Azure-based workstation on the LCS site depending on using a shared or dedicated development environment.

    Also for on-prem factor in the other IT- and maintenance-related costs.

    That would be a good comparison starting point to see if financially you are better off running it in the cloud or in-house.
