I've been looking into the Common Data Service and much of the documentation talks about how syncing uni-directional or bi-directional can be near real-time. Is there any timing behind this? Are we talking seconds or minutes when it comes to syncing entities using the Common Data Service Dual Write?
I used dual write just for exploring purpose and it was really quick , as soon as update CE or F&O change was immediately seen in either of the application so its definitely seconds .
volume would plays a role and load on both the app
consider performance testing for near real time scenarios and if possible try to make them async
Hi uioporqwerty,
In fact dual write is developed to be updated synchronous. That means that in fact it is real time. But as it has to update two databases as one transaction it might take some seconds.
In case there is an issue with one of the two applications or one is in maintenance mode, there might be a timeout or you can set the dual write in pause mode. As you can understand, in this scenario, you don't have the information in both systems real time. It will then catch up all processing after both applications are back online.
So, it is not always guaranteed to be real time, but it should be when both applications are running normally. So, this is the reason to call it "near real time".
