Consolidate identical order lines when work is created

(0) ShareShare

Hello all,

One of my clients every now and the enter orders where order lines are identical, heading for the same destination.

Order A

Order line 1: Item AAA, 5 pcs

Order line 2: Item AAA, 5 pcs

When order is released to Warehouse, two identical work lines are created, meaning that the picker has to confirm 2 times 5 pcs.

Is ther any way to set up the work creation so that one work line is created?

Using AX2012 r3.

Brgs

Hans

    Hi Hans,

The first question to ask is what is the business purpose for which your client adds same lines for the same items heading for the same destination.

If identical goods are being sold from same warehouse and to same address then the lines should not be split.

In case this cannot be controlled for some business reason as far as I know there is no way you can consolidate work lines to one if you have made lines separately in sales order.

Two order lines means two shipment lines, and each shipment line will have separate Work lines; it's not possible to consolidate these on to one Work line.

However, if you use Cluster picking, the work lines with the same item/location will be combined into a single instruction on the hand held. Since you are not really wanting to use the Cluster picking function for it's true purpose, you should try configuring it as simply as possible; a cluster of a single work header, automatic Cluster Ids, don't utilise different cluster picking positions. It's not a brilliant solution, but it can be done in standard... perhaps test it and see what you think.

    Hi Guy,

The above scenario looks to have two lines on order selling from same warehouse and heading to same address so in this case we will not have two shipment and instead only one shipment and two lines in the work.

Rest the work around suggested by you for two shipments using cluster picking is fine in case there were two shipments.

    Hi Hans,

If that is the case then I fear there is no way you can consolidate two lines for the same item in one work.

    Hi Hans/Sagar

This is the Cluster picking 'solution' I suggested. A single sales order has two identical lines. It is released on to a single shipment:

The wave is processed, and a single Work Id is created. The Work has two Work lines:

    2744.Work.jpg

If you pick the work using a Cluster picking mobile device menu item, AX consolidates those two Pick lines in to a single pick instruction:

    Hello Guy, Sagar

Finally I found some time to dig deeper into the problem.

The customer thinks it is waste of time that AX creates on Pickwork per licence plate to be picked/put where the order consists of several LP's to be picked.

Couldn't this be consolidated into on one work? How/where?

Everything that is on a single Wave when that Wave is Processed will be on one Work Id, unless you use the Work template to break it up.
