Record level security for embedded power BI

Hi,

Can you please help to understand the possibility to apply automatic filters inside new created Power BI embedded reports within D365 Finance and Operations.
Example : We have created a report based on the sales cube.
The goal is to integrate this report inside Dynamics 365FO through an embedded report.
We encounter a problem regarding security access to the data.
The general idea is that managers can only have access to the data regarding their own team members.

We wonder if it’s possible to create different security accesses for people, based on this analytical filter.
The report would be the same, but the content would be different based on security roles assigned to the managers.

Is it possible to have this kind of record level security filter in embedded power BI report?

Thanks

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Talent,

Power BI has its own row level security. Policies created in Dynamics 365 F&O does not apply to Power BI. See also: Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

    Hy Talent,

I believe there are some parameters which will be overhanded in the moment the embedded PowerBI is called.

One is the ID of the company and as I remember a second paramter can be passed to the report. As I'm not a developer I'm not sure it is still the case. The second parameter sould be from type string and you could pass it to the report. So if you pass over e.g. the userName you could create your own PoweBI RLS model as mentioned by Andre. Of course you then need any table modell which reflects you security requirement inside the PowerBI report.

    Hi Andre,

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at this documentation : Using row-level security with embedded content in Power BI embedded analytics - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

this document says that for embedding a report with RLS in a customers application we need to apply an embed token :  Using row-level security with embedded content in Power BI embedded analytics - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

Here I am not very sure if we are to embed in F&O then where do I write this code  for embed token? DO I need to write it in the workspace form itself? Any idea on this will be very helpful.

    Thanks

    Hi Talent,

I don't have that experience. I only know that XDS is not applicable for Power BI reports and I know about the existence of the row-level security in Power BI.
