Good afternoon all -
Since I received a love letter in my email letting me know that I have to upgrade by year end in order to print 1099s, I need to find the easiest way to go from 2010 SP4 to 18.x. I've got everything built and tested to go from 2010 SP4 to 2015R2 with KB3102158.
The question is....there used to be a grid that would tell us what is required to upgrade. Saying if I wanted to go to 18.2, x would be required, similar to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics/s-e/gp/hot_topic_mdgp2018upgrade_414
My intent is to go to 2018, which is is supported. I want to go from 2015R2 to whatever the furthest version I can with 2015R2.
Alot of links refer to Customer Source, which is no longer, which is frustrating....
Thanks
Jeff
[I agree with Richard's recommendation to get to GP 2016. I get all of our "old" upgrades to GP 2016 prior to making the final hop to GP 18.x.]
Images back to GP 2013 are available here: docs.microsoft.com/.../mdgp2018_release_download_378
Since Customer Source is no longer, how can I download the ISOs for the RTM versions?
Or you can go to to GP 2016 16.00.0716 and then straight to GP 18.4. No need for any other incremental steps. Either way there are two hops involved.
So, what I'm seeing is that I can go from 2010 SP4 to 2015 R2 (currently testing), then to 2018 then to incremental 18.2, 18.3, 18.4.
All while keeping my sanity.
Sound correct?
Definitely get current. Once you get to Modern Life Cycle, things become much simpler. (We have gone from scheduling entire weekends for major upgrades to weekday evenings for the incremental 18.x updates.)
The *minimum* version for the 1099-NEC addition/1099-MISC changes are the late 2020 releases. It is recommended (and encouraged) to go all the way to 18.4 with your updates.
We have started the process of upgrading our GP clients to 18.4, with 18.x clients getting weekday updates and pre 18.x clients picked weekend schedules.
With your GP 2010 to GP 18.x upgrade, keep in mind the SQL Server requirements for the different hops you'll be making. [We are about to test a GP 2010 to GP 18.4 upgrade for one of our clients. Our initial multi-hop update/upgrade may be adjusted based on any upgrade issues we discover as we move through ten years of updates.] Richard's links have all the information to help with the planning.
I'm curious about that love letter you received ... 1099 changes went into effect for calendar year 2020 so most correspondence/panic was going on a year ago.
Thanks. I think based on timing, I need to be on the GP2018 version. According to the email I received for the 1099s is that the only supported version is for GP2018. which rules out 2019 forward. And if I get there, then it should be fairly straightforward then.
These upgrades hurt my brain. And I know I need to keep on them. Maybe if I get current, they won't be as much of a pain. And I know, that's me....
Here is the link specifying the upgrade path to GP.
18.0 is not the same as 18.2. One is GP 2018 and the other is GP. Either way it is a two hop process. There is no direct upgrade path.
Now according to Microsoft's site (docs.microsoft.com/.../hot_topic_mdgp2018upgrade_414), you can go from 2015 directly to 2018 RTM or later....
Upgrading From Patch Requirement for the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 Upgrade
14.00.0898 or later RTM or later Version 18.00.0400
US Year-End KB3102158
Am I reading that correctly?
You know that's not the answer I wanted, but thanks!
