Event 124 - Axapta Performance Extension DLL

Would anyone have some insight into what register entry is missing or how to suppress the error in event viewer?

I am currently running AX 2012 R3 CU9 and keep seeing the following error being reported

'The description for Event ID 124 from source Dynamics Server cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

Axapta Performance Extension DLL:'

I can only find (https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/axinthefield/dynamics-ax-event-ids/)

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 – Failed to open First Counter for Performance Monitor

AOS Performance Monitor Counters could not locate needed registry entry.

Recover a registry backup or reinstall the AOS to correctly initialize the registry.

The problem is it is referencing AX 2009 but I am running 2012 and doesn't list any details on what entry is missing...  I am not seeing any issues with AX I just like my event viewer clean. I also think reinstalling every AOS is kind of overkill and I see the same error on newly installed AOS instances so I dont think that is the issue.

    Hi,

Probably you need to remove some Ax counter from the performance monitor.

    Please refer this link:https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa624884(v=ax.50).aspx

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

I actually don't have any ax specific counters currently running in perfmon. I did a remove all counters just in case something was hidden though.

Could this be triggered via one of DynamicsPerf's features maybe?

    RE: AX 2012 R3 - Event 124 - Axapta Performance Extension DLL

DynamicsPerf is just a collection of T-SQL scripts and scheduled jobs organized into a project, and your Event log entry is talking about a DLL, so the problem sounds unrelated.

The information I could find is here:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa371925(v=vs.85).aspx

It explains how could you write a Performance Extension DLL to provide performance counter informations for sources which could consume it.

If that is broken, that means your Windows or AX installation is corrupt somehow. Try installing the latest kernel binary update maybe to see if that helps:

    RE: AX 2012 R3 - Event 124 - Axapta Performance Extension DLL

I actually just installed the latest kernel into production last night and we got the error before the update and after. It is good to note that I only get the error on my prod aos servers and I only have perfmon installed in prod right now.

Perform does contain other scripts besides just the tsql ones though. (perfmon + ax classes)

I noticed it gets in the log pretty randomly. For instance one was 3mins a part, then 14, then it might be silent for a while. So it doesn't seem like some sort of schedule is running it but rather it is event driven.

FYI I have debugging & hot-swapping turned off. Not sure if that would make a difference.

would anyone have an idea on how to trace back what app actually triggered the event log entry?

The source in event viewer is logged as 'Dynamics Server'

    RE: AX 2012 R3 - Event 124 - Axapta Performance Extension DLL

That goes beyond my skills since the logging itself comes from the AX kernel based on your source, which is sealed by Microsoft. Also I could not find any other posts similar to yours, so it must be a very isolated case.

Most likely Microsoft is the only one who could assist you with this issue if it is a concern, you could try opening a Support Incident and keep us posted with the results.

    RE: AX 2012 R3 - Event 124 - Axapta Performance Extension DLL

Following the lodctr /R rebuilds it still seems to happen. However after researching some other performance counter issues I found the following registry key. Has anyone else modified this key value?

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dynamics Server\Performance > Disable Performance Counters  (current value = 4)

RE: Event 124 - Axapta Performance Extension DLL

Every windows user know without windows operating system is nothing. We should open windows update option to make sure the security problems, performance issues and bugs hampering their daily operations running in the right direction. Some system has the default setting to automatic update the system. You may notice Sometimes, the system might not be able to install the required updates and show an error which is "service registration is missing or corrupt". The 1st and easy solution of this error to use or run Windows Update Troubleshooter to resolve the problem. 2nd way is checking the setting to confirm Windows Update services are up and working 3rd one is Refreshing your .NET files may also help to fix this error.
