Turning off Batch Control on existing items

Hello,

We went live in August 2016 and turned on Batch Control for items that were historically not batch controlled. We are now having issues maintaining accurate inventory with accurate batch numbers, and would like to turn off batch number control of 99% of our items. Our IT department is telling us something regarding the fact that since these item numbers have a historical record of being batch controlled, it is impossible to turn it off without creating new part numbers.

Are there any actual options? We literally want to just flip the switch and have batch control go away on 99% of our items.

It is hard to keep up with the challenges of that level of detail. At least without handheld devices and a great deal of retraining.

It should be possible to turn this of, but you have to control and check this very thoroughly. IMPORTANT you vet this properly!

1. Count ALL of your items to 0.

2. Close the inventory period.

3. Change your item tracking group to one without batch. You might have to force feed it this one...

4. Count your stock to the previous levels.

You may also need to release any reservations and to close open orders.

I'm curious to know if you were able to successfully turn the batch control off in your system? I ask because my company would also like to do this but unsure how hard it is to accomplish.
