Possible Reason Codes

Hi all!

My company is wanting to start using reason codes for item journals. They are a manufacturing company.

Everyone has come up with some reason codes, some good and some bad.

Here are some of the reason codes which we have come up with:

  • Damaged in Production
  • Quality
  • Obsolescence
  • Returned from Production
  • Scrapped
  • Put away incorrectly
  • Unrecorded consumption
  • Returned from Customer
  • Returned to Supplier

I am looking for any suggestions regarding possible reason codes.

    Hi Greg

    When it comes to reason codes the only advise I can give is to determine how it will be used for business intellence or management reports.

    For example:

    In a QC department in manufacturing they might want to use reason codes like Damaged, Bad Fit, or Wrong Colour. But for management they might find it reason codes more useful if it means something to a department that can be masured like Damaged by Operation 1, PAINT SHOP, Cutting.

    It mainly depends upon your process what reason codes to use. Some of them could like generic Error In Production, Inspection Failed, Sample Inventory...
