Job Planning Line Quantity

Hello Everyone,

My question is about quantities in job planning lines for ressources.

I could see that if I planned to consume 1h for a planning line, in case I consume 2h, then I loose the inital quantity.

Loosing this information, I cannot get inital budgeted hours.

Is there an existing ootb setup to keep initial quantity (for Example block it and create new planning line to store new hours, or having negative remaining quantities) or does it requires a customization ?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Hicham

How about to set "Apply Usage Link" field on Job card as OFF.

Job setup page have "Apply Usage Link" default value.

    Hi S.Kawamura,

Finally i could make it working. But i saw something other, the quantity Posted is not filled. i think it is expected but why ? i don't understand the logic.

I would be happy if i can find a documentation about this functionnality, in a deeper level.

Sorry for the late reply, and finally i could get my reply by focusing in the doc you sent me. I already read it, but did not figure out exactly what are the consequences :)

to get the posted quantity for a job planning line, you have to set "Usage Link" to true.

In order to keep the initial quantity for this job planning, i've created a custom Job planning line attribute to store this initial quantity.

Have a nice day ! and thank you

You shouldn't need to customize anything.  The Usage Link allows the Job Ledger Entry to be linked to the Job Planning Line.  You need to use Line Type of Blank or Billable when posting the entry in the Job Journal.  If you set the Line Type to Budget or Both it will update the Job Planning Line (which ruins the original budget).

I suggest using the Blank Line Type in 95% of cases.  You would want to use the Billable Line Type in a Time & Material billing scenario where you will be for the entries being posted on the Job.

    HI BEn BAxter,

thank you for your reply :)

your reply helped me to understand better how this is working. And I did more test to finally get the following :

the usage link help me to get the remaining quantity from the job journal before posting, very needed in my business, and as said earlier, it is an ootb behavior to loose the planned Quantity.

I've just created a job planning line attribute that store the original quantity and this did the trick.

One other benefit for this "trick" is that I can recalculate whatever I want this value if I change the budget for the job without impacting all others and complicated calculation existing in planning lines.

    Regards,

    Hicham
