NAV not working on Windows 8

Good day, I have been battling to get NAV 2009 R2 Role Tailored Client to work on a Windows 8 (64 bit) machine. I get an error message on NAV startup stating "The application could not be started. Do you want to view information about this issue?" When I click on Yes, it takes me to a Microsoft page related to the .Net framework. I have confirmed that the .Net framework is installed (via the Add/Remove Windows features in Control Panel). I have also tried running the NAV application in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 as well as Windows 7. I have also confirmed that all WIndows updates have been done.

Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you in advance

Stuart

What ver of Win8 are you using?  Home, Pro, Ultimate, Enterprise?

I believe Home can't connect to a domain.

I am using Windows 8 Single Language (not sure what this means to be honest). The weird thing is though, that after I initially posted this, I tried installing NAV on a brand new laptop running Windows 8 Pro (before any AV, Office or other 3rd Party apps were installed) and it pops up exactly the same error message. I also tried installing it from the install set on the server (so over the network) as well as locally on the machine with the same result.

The idea of this not working on the Single Language machine does make sense as I'd imagine that this is a "Basic/Home" edition of Windows. But why not on the notebook running Pro?

So NAV is working on this pc now (Single Language system). Basically all that happened was that the finsql.exe file as well as the NAV executable file were copied from a working machine to this pc. It was a simple fix in the end but doesn't explain the underlying cause of the problem.
